Bloompop, a DC based startup founded in 2013, is changing the way people send and receive flowers. Bloompop’s mission is to deliver the highest quality flowers by partnering with only the best local florists. Bloompop’s website features unique and modern designs suitable for any occasion, ranging from vibrant, to quaint, to dainty, with various color and flower-type options, simple pricing, and quick delivery. Customers simply enter their zip code and desired delivery date, and Bloompop provides several distinctive and beautiful designs from local artisan florists to choose from.
Bloompop’s CEO and founder, Shavanna Miller, was in grad school when she noticed inconsistency and shoddy quality throughout mainstream flower delivery corporations, along with the lack of resources for local florists with great designs. From there, Miller saw an opportunity to combine online convenience and top-notch quality to bring the finest flowers to people all over the country.
Miller first started by building Bloompop’s market in DC, personally approaching reputable local florists and pitching her ideas. One of the most beneficial aspects for the florists is the creative freedom that Bloompop lends them. All of the designs featured on the website are crafted by the florists themselves, with no interference or restrictions from Bloompop. As Miller said, “The only criteria we have is that whatever style you have as an artist, you’re doing a fantastic job at it.” As the company expanded to cities all over the country, it maintained having high-quality partners as its foremost priority, filtering florists through Yelp reviews, customer feedback, reliability, and the uniqueness and freshness of their flowers. To aid in its expansion, Bloompop has maintained an active presence in social media, through Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
While Bloompop has only been around for two years, the company and Miller have already gained accolades from being included in DCInno’s “50 on Fire Finalists for 2014” to Trending 40’s 2014 Power Women in DC Tech.
On top of all the success the company has achieved in such a short amount of time, Bloompop plans to expand internationally in 2015. As Miller put it, “I think that we will be a household name…Bloompop will be known as the way to send beautiful flowers not just in the US but globally as well.”
